Harvard Business School Association of Hong Kong (HBSAHK), together with Asia America Multi-Technology Association PRD is excited to have invited HBS Professor Thales Teixeira, to talk about understanding and investing in the newest wave of disruptive businesses.

Event Brief

Is there a "recipe" for successfully investing in the new age of disruption?

In recent years, a new wave of digital disruption has been taking over the Internet. It is characterized by business models focusing on the separation of consumption activities that traditionally went together such as content and advertising or browsing and purchasing products and services. In this talk, Harvard Business School Professor Thales Teixeira will show how a variety of firms, both incumbents and start-ups, are using digital technologies to decouple consumer activities.

This new and innovative business model has the potential to unlock enormous value and, in the process, it creates winners and losers.

Takeaways include a recipe for valuating disruptive businesses in any given industry. Examples in industries such as retailing, telecom, consumer goods, transportation, industrials, media, health, education and more will be discussed.

Prior HBS, Prof. Teixeira was a quantitative consultant to financial services and technology companies, including Microsoft, HP, Prudential. He holds a Ph.D. in marketing from University of Michigan, a Bachelor's degree in business administration and Master's degree in statistics from University of Sao Paulo.
